10 gallon setup..

I tried the search a few times but it's always disabled. I had a 160g reef tank about 2 years ago and am thinking of starting a small tank up...10gal. I need some advice as to what lighting and filter and/or powerhead would work well for this tank.
I plan on getting 10lbs LR but should I go BB or sand again? Any advice and pics would be great. Thanks.

Well I did about the same as you. I had a 55 gal 2 years ago and now im 3 weeks into a 20 gallon. I'm using 20 LS and 40 pounds LR most because I'm not going to use a sump. I put a skimmer and regular HOB carbon filter my power heads are aqua clear 50 for flow and a 20 for air

10 gallons is a tougher setup than 160. It's a challenge to maintain stability. Can I recommend a sump of about 60 gallons?

As far as lighting goes you could probably get away cheap by rigging up some kind of CFL setup from HD.

Probably a pair of wimpy powerheads would be all the sand bed can handle, so maybe bb would be best in this case, it would increase water volume slightly too. Those Zoomed sweeping powerheads might be ideal.

I go out in the ocean once or twice a month with my boat and I use NSW as I did with my last reef tank with no issues. Water change 1-2 times a month will be a non issue but I was more curious about a good hang on bio type filter and maybe a retro hood made for a 10 gallon. I'll look at the vendors sites this weekend.

Thanks

What do you plan on stocking It with as far as corals If any, sps? lps? or just a FO tank? We could answer your lighting question with an Idea on your plans.
