Porcupine and Tusk- happily ever after?

Hi guys/gals,

Would a small porcupine puffer ( 2.5") be okay with a 6" Harlequin Tusk? Would the larger tusk pick on the porc?

Thanks
Capt.

Are they going in a 55 gallon later? If so, neither of those fish are small enough for that size tank. Harlequins are very very active and get to be rather large, and porcupines get to be very large with respect to typical aquarium fish.

In a 10 gallon, you could keep the puffer in there for the quarantine period but I personally would quarantine a 6" harlequin in something closer to a 30 gallon. With that being said I wouldn't quarantine them together in a 10 gallon, just not enough space.

What size tank do you plan on putting them in? The porc will def. outgrow that 55 soon.

For the next year they will be in a 55 and thereafter I will be upgrading to a 125 or 150. The porc is only 2.5" and I may go with a smaller tusk than 6", probably something in the range of 4 - 5". These will be the only 2 fish I will be keeping in the 55 and I should have about a year before they outgrow this tank.

you should never qt more then one fish in a tank. very bad. will pass on the others disease to each other. always separate quanrantine tanks! 10 might be too small so I would buy at least a 20-30 gallon tank. They are like 30 bucks but your fish will be much less stresssed out during QT and it will be easier to watch water quality in a 30 gallon then a 10 gallon and water quality is very important for QT. Money used buying another 30 gallon tank will be peanuts to the the benefits a larger QT will bring you.
