FRICKIN SWEET!

These is some very nice equipment, spec wise. If I didn't have so much money tied up in Canon glass and accesories, I would definately give them a serious look. But switching back and forth would be stupid. I'm sure Canon will try to catch up soon.

I have a need for low noise at high ISO and had given some serious thought to switching to the Canon 1D series for that. Hopefully this will give me what I need in the near future as switching platforms would cost about 8k after selling/buying.

Let us know how the D3 is. I'm waiting for the D3X or whatever they want to call it. I want a bit more resolution on the DX factor.

According to my source, D3X will not be out anytime soon. (or anytime later )
So, if you are expecting 15+ megapixels top of the line type of camera, you will have all the time in the world to start saving your money

D3 is sweet, sooo sweet D

and here is the good news, those who have very bad eye-sight and have to see small things big, 1:1 big, ... well, you better start saving your money as well

PS : oops, I didn't say anything :X

I think Nikon will come out with at least one more high end version, the D3 seems too be set toward general/sport/PJ work and the next pro camera should have a bit higher res.

I also think that after they sell a few hundred thousand D300's they will come out with a D300fx with a full frame sensor so everyone who bought a D300 with the dx sensor will want too buy it as well.

Its all about taking our cash.

I'm not expecting the D3X any time soon. I'm looking at them to announce it at next year's Photokina and then ship it by the holiday then. I can wait and save until then.

Pre- ordered my d300 today as live view mode is what I have been waiting on in a DSLR. I think for the money it will be a great camera as well as a great upgrade from my D80.

My D200 and a whole setup is coming late this week. I wish if I would've known this last week. Not much different in the price. I got mine from ritzcamera a local store at the mall.
http://www.ritzcamera.com/product/SLR1151.htm
and got two years extended warranty. I also had to get few extra stuff for reef photography like
Nikon R1 Wireless Close-Up Speedlight Outfit
I will go to the mall shortly and see when the D300 is coming and if soon and not too late to switch my order to D300.

Dont panic to much. I also have a D200 which ive only had a few months. But im not worried, as upgrading so soon is not gonna magically make your photography better.

Both look like great cameras though. But then again so is the D200

Do you guys think the extra battery back add one for the D300 with the handle is worth it? Would it really help taking pictures? I know it takes faster shots.. but I've never used a PRO camera and was wondering if it was useful having that extra grip.

If you shoot a lot in portrait orientation, it's worth it.

Vertical grips are the kind of thing you may find awkward at first but then will want one on every camera you own.
