Wow, both those are beautiful. You don't really see the speckled type morphs around very often.

I should really stick to SPS with all these tricky zoa names...

Are these ones (Satan's Breath) posted on zoaid? This the best site for ID's?

thanks guys..

here's Red Wine lane...

at one time, I had about 70+ polyps... I was finally able to snag a few small frags (3 - 3-5 polyps frag) in late 2006.. it took me more than a year to find them... they took a little while to settle.. they gave me a scare when they were new coz I lost my biggest frag of 5 polyps.. I think it took about 2 months for them to settle... they are fairly fast growers once they settle... they are very finicky though, esp after fragging.. I would recommend atleast 2 weeks to let them settle before shipping them for trades and such...

good luck to all that are trying to acquire them and I hope they do as well for you as they did for me coz they are one of my favorite zoas for sure..

I think mine absolutely take the longest to grow out. I think I went from two to three in the past year or so.

OK really she is just in the middle of an agility jump... no magic

raddogz: do you have any pictures... really slow growers hua?

MarvinsReef: You have some awesome pictures. So it took nearly a year to grow out those three frags? What do you mean by very finicky... special conditions, lighting, what?

never had these zoas, but i would check that out. maybe parameters or pests, because i dont think that is a healthy growing rate.

goodluck

when you frag them.. make sure to give them atleast 10-14 days to settle before trading, esp if they have to be shipped out..

Yeah, the other zoas in the tank grow well so I don't know. I was told that these were slow growers from person I bought them from. Maybe I'll switch them into a different tank.

Here's my Headless Horseman Paly. They look very close but have the red in the middle. This is my favorite in my tank.

i always had trouble with ruby reds......they just never seemed to flourish like they do in marvins tank. they doubled in size after a couple of months. but sometimes they would just look sick and stubby.

i ended up selling most of them, and then i gave my last frag to someone to see if they could revive them.

i could never get the big puffy skirts like marv had. and am still waiting for marv to publish his secret recipe.

my guess is the reason why they loved marv's tank was b/c he was running low light, and no skimmer. i.e. they dont like a low nutrient tanks such as my mostly sps system...

Al, your Wines were awesome to look at..

I believed that you had decent growth as well... it's sad that you had to part with them but I understand... the zoas I cannot keep in my tank is the True Armageddon.. I've spent more than a year trading and buying frags just to have them do good for a few months and slowly just wither and die.. I dunno what the heck... I've had more than 15 frags of these guys and I have none now... and am scared to try them out again...

I have no idea why the Wines have done so well in my tank.. I'm not complaining about that for sure coz they're definitely one of the most beautiful zoas out there... and red is my favorite color.. LoLz..

the only thing I could think of also is my tank is skimmerless and have been running for 14 months now.. regarding my lighting I think 250w MH DE w/ 14k Phoenix is pretty ample lighting to keep anything.. I actually just downgraded from a 250w DE to a 250w SE coz I think I'm giving my corals too much lights.. I've noticed a few corals fade under my old lighting.. hopefully this new lighting will help restore some of the colors back...

I dunno if this long post helps anyone out... I hope it does..
