Exclamation Time For Club Elections - Important Details

Club election time is upon us. This year, we are going to try something different - vote on-line. This will give every club member an opportunity to vote. Voting will be open from Sunday November 4th through Saturday November 17th. The winners will be announced at the November 18th meeting.

So what are you voting for? You will be voting for the 4 Elected Officers of the club and to approve an amendment to the by-laws. These officer positions are voluntary positions - no one gets paid. Below, you will find a summary of each of the officer positions and their responsibilities and time commitments.

President - This persons is responsible for planning regular monthly meetings (including speakers, DIY Demo's, field trips, etc). Working with other clubs for the good of this club and the hobby. Listening to and trying to work through member complaints. Working with corporate sponsors. Scheduling the regular Board of Directors Meetings. Casting a tie breaking vote (if needed) at these meetings. On average, this job takes 20 hours a week.

Vice President - Fill-in in the absence of the President. Attending Board of Directors meetings and vote on club matters. Vice President is also responsible for membership - collecting and ensuring members get their cards. On average, this job takes 5 - 10 hours a week.

Secretary - This person is responsible for keeping the minutes of the Board of Directors meetings. Attending Board of Directors meetings and
vote on club matters. They are also responsible for tracking the club's Library of books and equipment. On average, this job takes 3 - 4 hours a week.

Treasurer - This person is responsible for keeping the Financial records and regulatory documents of the club and regularly communicate the clubs Financial position to the membership. Attending Board of Directors meetings and vote on club matters. On average, this job takes 3 - 4 hours a week.

The Board of Directors may choose to appoint special committees or positions including that of Director of Public Relations. The Director of Public Relations is responsible for working with the local community and stores to promote the club.

The Board of Directors has nominated and recommended for this election:

President - Jeff Myjak (Hans1976)
Vice President - Tom Stange (trstange)
Treasurer - Tom Hynes (thhynes)
Secretary - Dave Huther (Shark Bait100)

If you would like to be added to the list of candidates, please contact Rich (aka Gobey) or Jeff (aka Hans1976). Why contact us? We will verify that you are a club member in good standing and that you understand and are willing to commit to the job's responsibilities.

Other matters to be voted on:

By-Laws Amendment:

In summary, the amendment eliminates Family Memberships and increases dues. The Board feels that because members are always welcome to bring their families to meetings, there is no need to charge them more. With the quantity and quality of speakers, the Board feels that a $20 a yearmembership is reasonable.

In response to Reefkrazy's post, if PL_Reef, chirocato or anybody wishes to be added to the list of candidates, they are more welcome to do so by contacting Rich and/or Jeff.

Yes I saw that but why have elections Or even US involved if they had allready made up their minds to who is running. Sure people could contact them if they wanted to. But us as paying members should be able to deciede who we want to have as officers. Who will be running agianst them. IF nobody then this is not an election but just a polite way of saying here are your new officers...scratch that ...... here is your new president!

Yes, the board has "made up its mind" who THEY want to run for office. It's not up to the board (nor do they have control over) who club members vote for or who is ultimately elected. If you want to throw yourself in the running, contact Rich or Jeff and you will be added to the ballot. If you want to nominate somebody else, go right ahead but the person you nominate has to be willing to take the position so THEY are the ones that need to contact Rich or Jeff if they want to be added to the ballot.

CTARS is 100% open to nominations for each position. If ANYONE is interested in running, please, by all means - let us know and we'll add you to the ballot.

The names on the list above are the initial nominations - that's it - anyone else can be added. Send me or hans1976 a PM for someone you wish to nominate (be sure to let us know for what position) and then we'll update this thread accordingly.

Well...after going to jail for...kidding!!

I simply can't give the club the attention it deserves.

New baby, new house, now a Scoutmaster...the list goes on.

I have a 230 gallon and a 180 gallon to set up at the new house. That'll keep me in the CTARS loop for sure, but I really can't be counted on for full attendance at meetings and around RC...I'll certainly chip in where I can.

I'll be back someday - if nominated and elected...

Nominations for club officer positions will be closing Nov3. Now would be the time to get your name in if one of the positions interest you!

How long is each term, and is there a minimum/maximum amount of time each officer is allowed to serve?

All of that info can be found in the club's by-laws which is in the members only section of www.ctars.org. If you belong to the club but don't have a user i.d. and password, contact Greg (Obi-dad).

Just curious if anyone else has run into this. I voted the other day and after I clicked the vote button it sent me back to the Login page. I wasn't sure if the vote had gone through or if something was up.
