Very nice tank indeed.

I'd love to know how you keep those acros from turning brown with the PO4/NO3 levels as high as they are.

Mind if I ask you for the average temp, pH, calcium & alk levels your tanks runs at?

I might have missed it but did F35 ever mention the type of corals he has in the tank? Any acros or things of that nature?

Carlo

PS not picking on F35 since I've ran very heavy stocked system with plenty of corals but not SPS types like acros. Couldn't keep them (SPS) alive. Didn't have algae problems either. I also had PO4 levels as high as 7.0.
he mentioned his ability to grow frags out quickly...and we are on the sps forum... iirc i've seen him around zeoville and as you can see from his pictures, he has an impressive tank.

To me, I always try to keep the most two important pars are: the alk ~8-9 and Potassium 350-400. If I see those pars drop below those munbers above, my corals will occur RTN/STN. and other info.

Cal ~400-450
ph 8~8.3
temp in Summer 80~ 82, I do have chiller but I set it turn on at 83
Temp in Winter ~76-78

I really don't worry much about PO4 and NO3 as long as I don't see any negative affect on my tank.

This will explain why my tank has high PO4:

Interesting. I've been trying to track different tanks on certain params and I'm curious on one thing. You choose 8-9 for Alk.

Why do you like this number instead of higher values some people go for like 10-11? No right or wrong answer here, just asking for your opinion and observations when/if you ever ran it higher.

Thanks,
Carlo

I am a zeo user and I was told that 8-9 (even 7) is ok for zeovit as is the NSW KH reading.

Here is a pic of my tank

Carlos,

Per Zeovit guideline, it recommend that alk is 6.5 to 7.5. I use Seachem Reef salt therefore I need to add another 20% which comes out 7.8 to 9.0 ( im not too sure if I do the math right). So, my magic number is 8 to 9.0. For non-Zeo tank, I think 9 to 11 is good number too. I used to keep my old 150g tank alk around 10.

Very interesting read, guys.

When I'm ready to jump into the Zeo pool, I'll ask you guys for the help, for sure.

You saw Emdy's tank in person, so you know who to ask?

Well, no offense, but his tank looks a bit browned out.

hah hah j.k john, you know I'm just busting balls. lol.

really? I never knew John was doing Zeovit.

Do you think the PM achieved that deep purple because of your 400W lights or Zeo or both?

Hah hah, don't you already have a colony of pm?

btw, I don't think pm is as pretty as this, but as designer corals go, oh well whatever floats your boat.

back to zeo, sorry for getting off track.
