|
Cut a peice what to use
what should I use to make my first frag of an SPS it is a stag. I don't have the cutters you can by for them. I do have clippers I use in the yard to cut tree branches? or I can brake a peice off. What do you recommend?
should I buy the cutters or is it ok to use something else? Roger

You can use your hand if you are strong enuff.Or any thing that is clean and has a edge for snipping But to be on the safe side i would invest in some snips for sure . Nutting like nice clean cuts

get some sidecutters (also called wire dykes) from a car shop, after you use them, rinse them in clean water really well, and spray lightly with some pam cooking spray, that will help stop them from rusting so quick. wipe off any excess spray, and put em away for next time.

+1 for dikes just not from an electrician, as they cut copper all day. I have a set of klein dikes.. and yes fresh water flush after and a ligh coating of just about any oil as soon as they dry

I don't oil mine I just rinse it in fresh water when I'm finished and dry it off. My pair is a little rusty but still gets the jod done.

I use a pair of stainless steel sidecutters used for fishing. They will still need to be rinsed and dried well as in time they will rust and seize up as well.
I grab the acro firmly with the cutters, and bend the acro sideways, and then get a nice clean break, and most times, the frag is still gripped in the side cutters. Good luck |

Turkey baste your rocks and scrape the back of your tank clean. I always seem to end up with plenty of frags after this
  On a more serious note... just pinch the tip and break it off. If the colony isnt very large you might need to use a second hand to stabilize the branch lower down.

thick stainless steal toenail cutters. after use, soak in a cup w/ tapwater for 10 minutes, then wipe it dry
