what is chomping my goniapora?

I have a large goniapora colony that something seems to have taken a liking to?
I have
3 - hippo tangs
3 - yellow tangs
1 - clown
1 - algae blennie
1 - purple tang
2 - pepermint shrimp
1 - coral banded shrimp
turbo snails
small red leg crabs

could one of these be chomping on my goniapora?

Do you have any photographs of the Goniopora? Look at it after lights out when it closes up. If you see patches of brown, or a line of brown followed by tissue recession then you most likely have brown jelly.

Sometimes amphipods will take up residence in the skeleton of Goniopora and will eat the tissue away as well.

hers a pic of the goniopora and a pic of what the lfs called a reef safe linkia star, about the size of a half-dollar coin, can this be causing the issues.
It does have some brown but doesnt look slimy?

Random tissue recession is also indicative of starvation/lack of nutrition. Are you feeding the coral and if so, what?

Need to add phytoplankton (DT's) or something. They have a pretty dismal record in captivity. Your LFS lied to you a bit I'd say....

They are notorious for being extremely difficult to keep alive in captivity. Your best bet is to shut off your powerheads for 10 minutes and to target feed phytoplankton. Your LFS misled you.

I can't tell for certain with the out-of-focus picture, but to me that looks more like a Fromia star than a Linkia star.

Doubtful.

The coral looks pretty good, other than the bare spot. It's probably a thumb print. Die-off like that can be caused by someone gripping the coral too tight when handling it. If the bare spot is quickly growing larger (daily), then it has become infected.

Grabbing the coral as if it is a baseball can push the tops of the skeletal walls through the tissue, which damages it. The tissue often dies in that area, which can also become infected.
