I will be building a canopy for my 125 in the next month and plan on using 1x2s to make the frame of the canopy and skinning the frame with 1/2" plywood.

can't be that hard if you are handy with some hardware and a few common carpentry tools such as a router and a table saw

This is for my 180, but the same idea can easily be scaled down for your 30 gallon.
I didn't build a frame in my canopy. I just used 3/4" plywood and some common trim. The whole front opens up. Easy, solid, and looks pretty good, if I may say so myself. No router required. I just used nails and wood glue. The three accents are just wood nameplate blanks from the Walmart hobby section.

I just built this, I think it's pretty self explanatory. I'll be building another one soon to go with my Oceanic 30 that's going to my brother's science classroom...
http://archive.reefcentral.com/forum...=&pagenumber=1 Make sure you look past the old "canopy"... Tim
