it has the dack end of a lobster and the front end of the crab ..it is about one inch in size... hope the pic does it justice

Pic is a little too dark, but maybe a pistol or mantis shrimp. Google both and take a look at the pics.

Hopefully its a pistol shrimp, it looks like it.

pretty dark but looks (and sounds by your description) a mantis..I have one that's about 2+ in ... do you hear snapping/popping coming from your tank?

I hear poping once in a while... but i have had the tank for about three years and have never seen anything ...it is soo small i thought it was a young mantis/pistol shrimp but i didn't know for sure

talon4x4 ..after looking closer, I believe you're right looks like a real claw which would rule out a mantis ... if it is real deep dark red though ... ... let us know mark .......

its white in color ...and it sifts through the sand and digs caves all day its been there for about two weeks ..so the pistol is cool uh?keep it in there?

It looks like a thalassinid shrimp, aka mud lobster or ghost shrimp.
