Wild True Perculas Spawning???
I have a pair of wild true percs that have been with me for a year and a half. They host to an RBTA that I have had for a year and 5 months. This is a 75G tank, that also contains sps and lps corals. Other fish in the tank are a flame angel, Royal Gramma, and a leopard wrasse. I also have one cleaner shrimp. All have been in the tank for over a year.
This afternoon I noticed that the clowns are protecting a clutch of eggs that are attacted to one of the largest rocks in the tank. (The rbta is also attached to this rock). The clutch is close to the anemone but not close enough for it to touch. This is the first time I have seen this happen. I have seen the female spawn eggs into the water column before, but this is a first. I assume that the eggs don't have a prayer of surviving with the other fish and the shrimp that are in the tank. Does this occur regularly for other clownfish owners? I wish I was in a position to remove the eggs to a breeding tank, but I'm leaving town in the morning. Can anyone tell me what to do, or direct me to some information as to what to do if this happens again in the future? Thanks.
