Ideas for elevating my hood 12"?

I will be buying MH's for my hood soon. Because of this I want to raise my hood 12" above the water. I can't hang my hood from the ceiling (can't get the approval from my wife!). Does anyone have any ideas on how to get my hood 12" above the water without hanging my hood up?

Thanks!!

What kind of hood do you have now?? How tall is it?? How about building a DIY hood That way you can build it to your spec and getthe height you want. Or I have seen some people that had just added a section to the hood the have to extend the height.

I have a 48" hood now. It's 8" wide and 5" high. The is the right size I just need it raised above the tank and I don't know how to get it elevated without hanging it from the ceiling. I was thinking about some type of bracket or brace but couldn't find anything that would work. I was just wondering if other people have raised their hoods without hanging them and how they did it.

I had the same problem and I made a DIY hood it was real easy and you can make look real nice for the price of a sheet of funiture grade plywood and some molding. $65.

You can build an extention frame around the perimeter of your tank, like a collar it fits on top and raises the level.

I had a similar problem, but instead of raising the bottom, I added to the top.
Here's a couple pics of my canopy.
