Power Head Preference

I am needing a new power head for water movement. I have a 75 ga bowfront...recommendations?

I was thinking about a Hydor Koralia 2, but these seem to be rather large in the tank as far as real estate. I have a 2 stage timer for different water flows.

I have found a great love in the Tunze 6025's. The 6045's are about 300 gph more than the 6025, but the 6025 is easily modded to around 1200 gph while keeping the look seemingly stock. It's around $60. Just my opinion. Koralia is good too, just really large....

Chris, were you able to talk to Roger about magnet clip replacement for the 6025. I havent called him yet but plan to. I wish the brackets could be made more stable. I didnt know the 6025 could be modded.

It depends. Are you looking for indirect flow or direct flow?
Direct Flow: MaxiJet
Displaced Flow: Tunze

I can't afford Tunze, so Hydor Koralia is a great substitute followed by Seio, but I'm too cheap for even that. I just use the MJMods

Thanks for the replies.

I am looking to replace the power head that is on the right end of the tank to push flow behind and through the rock.

I have two Koralia 4's, and I love them. They aren't small however.

I would replace both of the powerheads with something like Koralia or Tunze. If you just want to replace that single Penguin, then the MaxiJet can push more flow and is more reliable.

Doug, he asked for my address, so I'm assuming he is sending me a new one...We'll see. He said that they are redesigning it for something else. Maybe they will make it stronger....As far as the modding, Tunze restricted the flow of the 6025 for smaller tanks. It is essentially a restricted 6045. I can show you the page if you want Doug.

I have 2 Koralia 3's in each back corner of the reef, and a maxijet in the back centre---great upper surface turbulance. The two koralia's supply the turbulent flow and the maxijet supplies straight flow outward and bounces off the front glass and back.

Yes Chris, show me the page. I may be interested. What is the max flow that the 6025 can get from the modding?

I've read over 1200 gph. And I'll look for the page.

Tunze Nano Mod

Here is the mod page. It's long, but pretty informative.

I modded my 6025, and I'm guessing it's about 900gph. But I didnt' do the full mod, I cut a V shaped wedge out of the housing instead of taking the entire housing off. If you don't already own a MJ1200, this mod will cost you more than a Koralia if you have to buy the pump and the kit. If you get the pump used and make the parts yourself, definitely the most inexpensive way to increase flow.

Thanks Chris, for the site. I just did the modd and I am amazed at the volume I am getting out of this little pump. This is great. I am very pleased......

I would go with 2 Koralia 3s and a mj (not modded) for some flow behind the rocks.

The k3 should not look to big in that tank, especially with the black background. Nice tank by the way.

Man Doug, that was awesome. I put up the post, and an hour later you have the mod in the tank. Sweet!

I did two of them. I didn't do the full modd, but what I did gave me another 40% flow I am guessing. It is outstanding. Have you modded your pump?
