nice work got some questions though.

1) Link to where you got the dosing pump from?
2) What timer are you using to control your lights?
3) What size acrylic did you use to build your sump et all for.

Thanks Everyone!

Sorry its been so long since an update, I haven't been to morgantown in a week and i wont be back there until this coming Friday. As far as the tank goes, it was running great when i left. I did put in a single SPS coral and a small island of neon green star polyps in. When I left last Sunday, they both looked great.

Theoretically the tank should be doing fine since i've been gone, i will give a big update next weekend when im in morgantown. If the two corals are doing good then i will move several more in, as well as some inverts.

Azazael13:

1) Litermeter III
2) Reefkeeper 2 Controller
3) 1/4"

guntercb:

I got the tank frames from my LFS, they ordered them from direct from AGA. I semi-built the reservoirs, i had the sides bent from 1/4" acrylic so that i would only have one seam and then just finished them up myself.

Well most of the corals are in and the tank is running great! I have been adding corals every weekend, and plan to add my fish slowly over the next month.

Stocking:
20+ SPS (Birdnest, Acros, Torts, etc...)
3 Clams
3 LPS
2 Softies

In about a month when school starts and im back around the tank full time, i plan to add some exotic SPS to my collection. I also plan on adding some colorful zoas as well. Here are some pictures, Enjoy!

I'm new, and have been poking around for 5 days now (straight almost... I'm hooked). Of all the cool things I searched through... this takes the bait. Scrolling through was like rooting for a team through a great game... I couldn't wait for the next set of pictures. All I can say is WOW. Someday, I hope to be able to do what you accomplished. Good luck!

supervdl: Thanks! It has been officially been running for about a 1.5 months, but the live rock has been cycling/being seeded for about 5 months.

SunDevil95: Thank you very much SunDevil95, Im glad you enjoyed it!

A few other updates everyone....

In order keep everything organized and easy to reference for fish sitters in the future, I printed out an 8.5 x 11" master list of all the power controls to my system. It is laminated to the inside of the left stand door.

Here are some comparitive pictures of when the T5s only are on and then when the MH and T5s are on:

T5's Only

MH and T5's

T5's Only

MH and T5's

The main light setup is as follows:

- A single 250 Watt DE 14k Phenoix MH in a Reef Optix III reflector.
- 2x39 Watt HO T5s in IceCap Reflectors (6500k GE and 12000k ATI AquaBlue Bulbs)
- 2 Blue and 2 White Current USA Lunars (total of 8 LEDs)

The reason i when with a bluer MH and whiter T5s is because i would only be using 1 MH on a 36" tank. I did not want there to be shadows at the ends of the tank. The whiter T5s keep the whole tank lit well (and add a good bit of PAR aswell), and the bluer MH gives a great shimmer and really makes the colors pop. In addtion, my power bill is not insane. I am definitely happy with the overall look! I hope everyone else enjoys it as much as i do!

Theres more to come!

JGross... awesome job on the tank. I'm in the process of setting up a 45 Tech tank and I'm going to "borrow" a few of your ideas.

After listening to my durso/sump during the leak test, I think I'm going with the Herbie method also.

A couple questions:

1. Where did you get your black flex pvc?
2. Is your eheim pump quiet? I have a Mag 5 currently and its so loud I think the neighbors are losing sleep.
3. Did you ever consider T'ing your return into both sides of the tank? I thought that'd be a good option given that Herbie requires us to run the return up and around the back.

sjediets: Thanks!

1. Its black anti-kink tubing from Marinedepot.com, and it works great.
2. The eheim is super quiet, you have to put your ear right up to it to hear it, it makes a very silent hum. I had a Mag 5 once and it sounded like a dump truck compared to the eheim.
3. Yes I did, but since I only used a eheim 1250 and it sees about 4 ft of head, i didnt think there would be enough flow for a double return to be beneficial.

You will be very happy with the herbie method, i am a noise freak, and my tank runs very silent. The whole system only generates a very low tolerable hum.

Is that 3/4" tubing you're using on the drain? Any pics of the business side (drain, valve) of the Herbie method?

Yeah, 3/4" for the drain, and 1/2" for the return.

Sorry, I've been super busy with school starting this past monday. As far as the tank goes, I have added one more small clam, and the rest of my fish. The tank has been running good so far. I still need to finish up the dosing system. I am currently take Calcium and Alk readings everyday to determine how much my system uses. I will post more pictures this weekend.

Also i have be attempting to acquire some "higher end" SPS frags to my collection, especially a blue tort. So, i took the plunge and purchased this frag pack from a fellow RC reefer,

http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1189217

It should be here friday, i cant wait to get it!. I will post pictures, dont worry!

Very nice indeed. Are you able to access everything in that stand or is it a bit crowded?

I must know. What is the Herbie Method? I am a noise freak too. I want my next tank dead silent! Beautiful tank. Just beautiful.

Thanks guys,

crrichey: I am able to access everything, but it is crowded. Having all four sides open up on the stand does help though.

MarineGirl411: Check out the advanced section for details. You simply run two drains to your sump (and also use a silent return pump like an eheim) and put a valve on the main drain line. Once the system is running, you turn the drain flow down using the value until it matches the flow from the return pump. This result is no air getting down the drain, thus eliminating the noise. The second drain is a back up, if the main drain clogs or the flow is not matched right, water can just overflow into the backup drain. It works great, i love it.
