ooo i didnt read your info i didnt realize that you had 11 fish and a tang. a 54g is two small for a tang period let alone 11 other fish an 50 pounds of LR. you are stressing it out big time im sure watch if it stops eating then your going to have some problems

when i moved my tank last month i had a powder brown totally lose all of his fins. today he is in the process of regrowing, almost all the way back now! the only thing i did for him is feed him my own food mix which included loads of garlic and loads of fresh ginger.
hope you can get him through this! good luck |

I know that low PH and acidic water can cause skin/fin irritations and stress. His fins should have been good looking for more than a week considering he was/is eating and showing a healthy attitude and the water parameters are in check.

My parameters are Ph 8.2, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate <10, alk 10.6, calcium 450. The Chocolate mimic tang is the only larger fish. I was talked into him back when I was completely stupid. Now, I am only marginally stupid. The other fish in the tank are an ocellaris, (they are buddies) bi-color blenny, scooter blenny, yellow watchman, 2 dart gobies, 3 blue/green chromis and a fridmani. 5 of these fish almost never leave their caves. He has been very very happy for going on 6 months. I don't think this is stress caused. The only thing that has changed is temp. We had a heat wave and my daytime temp spiked at 82 from 78... 2 days in a row b4 I could get a fan on the tank, Then, it dropped to 75 on the third day. Could this have caused it? Here is a photo of my tank. It doesn't appear to be overstocked.

He is eating. I feed a mix (1 third of a cube of each) of formula 2, Misis, and ocean plankton soaked in garlic twice a day plus a third sheet of nori once a day.

Fin rot conditions are usually a sign of a minor bacterial problem .. often cleared up by the fish's own immune system - sometimes water changes and good food will help. If you don't see progress then you might consider qting the fish and treating with an antibiotic. Not sure but your pics don't show a significant problem in my opinion.

Ya you have alot of fish but they are almost all small and your tank looks good, still think it is not alot of room for a tang. But I would try selcon or some other immune booster. It may help, GL

Thanks for your suggestions... Because of my complicated rock work... designed to give my tang lots of swimming room and tunnels... I cannot catch him. I am dosing with melafix and it appears to have slowed the rotting. Everybody including my corals look good. I will stay on this course and add the selcon.
