expensive but great quality and they have very healthy livestock and awsome looking corals. Ive never seen a dead nor dying coral on display there and ive only seen healthy ones. Ive also only seen 1 dead fish (cherry barb, freshwater) out of the like 100 times ive been there. So i think the price is justified IMO.

Plus they dont have moorish idols and stuff, at least ive never seen them.

I tried going to living sea aquarium and make that my lfs but i couldnt, there overstocked tanks, there cowfish with clownfish, there moorish idols for sale. It just didnt work for me. Plus they didnt seem that healthy

Check out old orchard, you will like them if you make friends with the staff. I get discounts a lot since i know there staff well.

Plus good info they give.

One of the few lfs i have seen that care for fish a lot and dont really sell them to people who they think dont know how to take care of them.

Just to let everyone know that there chillers are on sale so they are about the same price as DFS, you have to be a member though, but membership is free.

I do. Close to work - so much easier to go there for an hour during the day than it is for me to make it to anywhere in the city after work or on a weekend. Good plumbing selection, usually a very nice selection of healthy FW plants as well. My reef is maxed out, so can't speak of livestock. Don't know how prices compare, but if it is taxed - when it comes to convenience I don' t care about a few bucks.

oh yeah freshwater plants are on sale, buy 2 get 1 free. I got almost all my plants there when i was stocking my 75 gallon.

Just make friends with there staff, become there email club member, and there prices will lower for you.

I have been there a few times. They have a fairly knowledgeable staff. Their prices are high, but I have seen alot higher at other LFS.

What about that purple tang they had with no fins? The Elegance corals they had that were withering away? I asked the prices of them, they were both over $75.

I have been there a few times, but for the trip it is not worth the price for me. Probably the most expensive store I have been to.

And I have seen Moorish Idols for sale at Old Orchard just about every time I have been there, and from talking to one of the staff that I am acquainted with, they have them on a regular basis. Much more often than Living Sea. I am not sure this is entirely a crime, but I understand the objection people might have to it. At the same time, if people don't try to keep them and learn about them, there will be no advances in our hobby.

I used to go there frequently under the previous management. After not going for several years, I was in the area recently and decided to stop by to check out the place. The stock is great... very healthy, but everything in that store is overpriced, except for maybe a Hippo Tang. If I'm in the market for a show piece, that's the place to go, as I'll pay extra for a nice show piece. But for me, ShoTank and Sharky's are the places to go for coral and tanks. Both are close to home, offer great service and great prices.

Just to give you a reference point on Old Orchard prices, I just bought two Hydro Koralia 3 pumps from Premium Aquatics for $39 each, plus a complete set of membranes for my RO/DI and the shipping was $15.

When I started a reef aquarium a few months ago, I went to Old Orchard for some help, but the staff was very unhelpful bordering on rude. On another occasion I needed to replace a Mag 5 pump so I called them. They do not quote prices over the phone so I drove out to the store only to find that they are 3X more expensive than marinedepot. I would like to support LFS, but at those prices and their bad attitudes, I took my business elsewhere.

I've been there several times, and like most others think their prices are too high. I can't really say the live stock I have seen there is any better than other places I've been to justify the price either.

It is not to far from my office and I have stopped by several times. I have never been there when there is not a dead fish in one of the salt water tanks, look for the beat up fish in the tanks at the end of the rows still or sale (no fins, open wounds).

I always see dying corals (elegance, bubble) in their tanks.

If you look in their live rock tanks you will see all the skeltons from the dead LPS with algae on the bottom and nice and white at the top.

Now when I am having a bad week and need a pick me up I go to Sea Schor, as my office is almost at the mid-point between the two.
