Canopy Lighting Setup
I have a 75 gallon tank that came with a canopy that I still have not used. I want to buy lights to put in it but I do not want to spend a lot. I am just switching over to fish-only and do not need very powerful bulbs. I am not sure if to buy 2- 24in light strips, bc there is a divider in the canopy, just to strip apart or to buy special lights for canopies. Any help accepted!
Thanks, Jim |

With my 75 when I had a strip light (4 96w PC) sitting directly on the tank there was no shadow. Putting them 10 inches up there was a shadow...
I like MH lights much more and would suggest getting a couple lower watt MH's one for each side of the divider. |

options
If your doing a fish only tank the options are endless. What I found to be the cheapest is the 48inch shop lights that you get from home depot.Because you tank is not super deep they should do you justice. I have used them on a 90 in the past and I had no problem with the shadow effect, although I had them in a stock canopy so it was right above the water. Should be about 30 bucks and if you feel a need to change the bulbs I believe you can, I did on the one I bought.
I just read you have a blocker in the canopy I would just cut it out.Or you can get the shop lights that are 24inches not the cheapest route but still cheaper than the regular fish lights. |
