I would try to find a solution of why you are getting hair algae growth. Much easier way of controlling it. Can you give us some tank info... lighting, fitleration, readings, flow, ect.

Andrew is right. The only permanent fix is getting to the root cause. I struggled for the longest time trying to figure out what my problem was. When I figured it out it wasn't to hard to fix. I was overfeeding. It just took modification of habits, patience, and vigilant weeding. Sometimes it is just something so rediculously simple that is causing all your nightmares!

Andrew and bnhk3 are so right! placing a fish or any other creature to eat the thing U don't want maynot be the best answer.... what if the fish doesn't like the taste of hair algae but prefer additional feeding??? that will only make the situation even worse
IMO, to find the root of your problem... is the best answer
i too had hair algae problem, and from my little experience, it was the sponges i wrapped around all the pump intakes that accumulate detritus serving as nitrate haven. once i cleaned the sponges more frequently and in the end got rid of them, my hair algae disappeared by itself

good luck

My tang keeps my tank algae free. How can it not it grazes all day. I believe it is ok to have janitors in your tank to do certain things without getting to into what type of water, parameters, blah blah blah, lol.

My lawn mower blenny wouldn't touch hair algae, but a sea hare took care of all of my algae - hair and other nuisance types.

My lmb wont touch it. My yellow and blue tang wont touch it. Last sea hair had decided to crawl a little close to my power head. I will test all of my parameters tonight and post.

Yea, It is so hit and miss with this.

Do you guy's that have tangs that don't eat hair algae feed a lot of greens? I don't, to keep them wanting what grows in display. I only give them green's once a week or so, more sometimes if not much growing in display.

Oh, And finding the reason it is growing is not to be over looked as well. I'm answering the post...

Sea Hare loves the stuff, my Sohal does not touch the stuff

Andrew is correct though, best finding the problem than fighting it!

I had problems with hair algae. Did multiple things to get the chemistry right but couldn't get rid of it. It seemed to recede some.

Then I go a Sea Hare. Mowed the algae down in three days and it has never come back. Had to move the Sea Hare to another tank.

Conjecture that my corrections were working but not enough to kill existing algae which the hare took care of.

most lfs will buy a sea hare back. mostly just rent them for a couple weeks! too bad because they are pretty cool. but dont wait long after your algea is gone, they get hungry real quick

Foxface !!!! I bought mine about a week ago and he never stops grazing. He even eats the real long stuff by ripping it off the rock & sucking it down like spaggetti. I love this fish.
