Odyssea Bak-Pak knock off skimmer??

Has anyone used the Odyssea Bak-Pak knock off skimmer?? I was looking to add one of these inexpensive models to my prop tank and want to know if they are the same as the CPR version i already run on my 37g.
thanks

yes they are the same just about. Which is not saying much since the original CPR bakpak doesn't work all that well in the first place.

You could probably mesh mod the pump and get much better performance from it though

Thanks for the fast reply! Is the quality of construction about the same?

i think it is venturi so i dont think the meshmod will do anything, but im not 100% sure.

It is a venturi skimmer but the venturi is on the input not the output of the pump so yes you CAN mesh mod it.

Meshed and needlewheel pumps use "venturi" too you know

And you could always cut down the impeller to make a stick wheel first, then add a few layers and make it a meshmod, the exact same thing as a NW. Thats what i always do instead of paying the ten extra bux for a NW impeller.

Odyssea

I had one a few years ago and modded it with a Rio 800 instead of the 600 and seemed to get better skimmate. But you have to replace the plumbing of the unit with plumbing for a CPR bak pak. You can get that some were but I forget were right now.
