Does anyone have 20k leagues pics?

I got this frag named 20k leagues and was wondering if it was the real thing.

check FragFarmer.com he has the original colony. When i got my peice Eric said he had distrubuted about 7 Frags. I think that unless you got it through Fragfarmer Or Tyree it most likly is the 30K lokani which is still a super nice peice from TCN. Also TCN was calling there peice the 20k for a while but changed the name to avoid confusion

If its the real thing, the person who you got it from should know and be able to tell you where they got it from to verify it. It not the type of coral that one forgets where they got it.

I have heard that the 30K gets mistaken for the 20K quite often and is more popular.

Yours does look like a Lokani, so your halfway there.....

I hate to ask, cuz I am usually up on these.....who is TCN?

Ventralis,

Even though it is still small, I can say with reasonable confidence that it is A. lokani.

Is it a 20 or 30k? I don't know. The best way to find out is to follow the path back to its original source. As far as I can tell, the only distinction that you get with the name (20 or 30k) is its origin. From what I’ve seen they are identical in color and morphology.

The only reason that I have come to accept having two names for the same coral (which to me seemed absurd when we first released it into the market) was to retain the following distinction:
- The 20k was named by Steve Tyree and if memory serves, he obtained it from Eric (Fragfarmer.com) who obtained it from his local wholesaler.
- The 30k is TCN’s lokani which came directly from a wild colony (not from Eric or Steve Tyree).

In my opinion we have the same coral species coming from two different lineages. Maybe someone can do a DNA test to find out if they originate from the same wild parent colony so we can put this to rest and consider them same lineage.

I remember when the whole 20,000/30,000 thing went down I'm happy it's been resolved with TCN and LA changing the name of theirs to 30,000 leagues. Like it or not certain corals have become collectibles and to say the two corals are the same would be inaccurate. They may be very similar but they're definitely not identical. For TCN and LA to start calling their lokani the 20,000 leagues lokani was wrong IMO...

You have max out the beauty of the color on that coral. I haven't seen it look better than that.

Even after all these years of growing it and looking at it on a daily basis, it is still one of my top three favorite corals of all time.

Great Job!

I have a frag of the 20K that I got from fragfarmer. It looks like the one in your post except mine has darker purple tips. I have it under Iwasaki 175 15K's, about half way down my 24" tall tank. I figured since it's a deepwater coral it should be fine. It is growing and looking well.

Its truly taken off-Its under 20k 400wx3 XM'S- anyways live is really one of my favs too.
I wish I had pics of the turaki right next to it which has also developed very nicely. Both of them are 5 feet under the MH's with tons of flow(tunze x4 plus two penductors)

It is a fast grower, I was really surprised mine is under 400w 20K xms as well. Only a couple korilla 4's, modded maxi and OM CL with penductors on mine.

I'd have a nice colony by now if i wouldn;t let people talk me into frags all the time.

Also anyone know was sanjay's a coral nursery piece? that where i got mine.

Question

Ok, education time. How many different color variations are there of the lokani? Are they all considered deep water corals? Will they color up under intense lighting such as 250 10K's? High flow, low flow? And last of all, what is the difference, other than names ofcourse, between a lokani and a turaki?

I purchased a frag from a LFS about a month ago because I liked the shape of it. He said that it is a lokani and the shape looks exactly like the ones pictured here in this thread. It was and has stayed a light brown color since I've had it and I'm wondering how to color it up.
