Another t5 ??

I am servicing a 150 gal reef 28 in deep 72 in long w/3 250 W MH, no chiller. The temp is running mid day 84.5. There are no sps corals that need the MH only one orange monti cap frag. I have suggested changing the MH to T5’s. Would this help the over heating? And do T5’s use much less electricity?

Thanks

yes, and yes.

A T5 set up would be great. You can chose the bulbs combo you like best and the temps will go down. As for power they are the most effiecient at par/watt with the correct reflectors.

Thanks, that’s what I thought but I just wanted to verify. What brand would you recommend taking into account the length of that tank? 6 across?

tek makes good T-5 lights. make sure you get individual reflectors, to. it puts out much more light this way.

dont bother with fixtures. unless you have to/ want to.

a bunch of retrofits will allow you to choose reflectors, and ballasts. and save you $$

there are some nice fixtures, notably; ati, faunamarine, and aquactinics.

you can get four or five 80W T5 Fluorescent Bulb 5ft with SLR Icecap or TEK refectors. They would be about 12.5 inches wide (5 bulb setup). You could also stagger them to make them reach end to end of the tank. Go to www.reefgeek.com Greg will really get you going with a good setup.
