500GL tank crashed, it's over.

My 500GL reef tank has crashed along with almost all corals I had over 4 years.

Me and my wife is expecting a daughter in 3 months so we started to renovated some area of the house. The chiller pump plug was unplugged by the renovation worker to charge his mobile. They didn't notice something is wrong since the aquarium power appears to be unaffacted. The temperature shoot up to 34 degree celcious within 4 hours and by the time I return home the water is all milky and sticks so much.

Most of the coral looked intact though I can barely see anything and I immediately called for a 150% water change within the next few hours until midnight. The water remains almost as sticky and milky the next morning.

I decided to take the tank apart and found that almost all corals were lost. I was able to save most fish and a handful of colonies and they are now placed in my 150GL tank and in a 2m fiber glass tank in the balcony with fresh seawater and the liverocks.

I already ordered a 3mx1.3mx1m tank and is about to move all corals within 2 weeks and it is unfortunate that they have no chance to get that far.

OMG, What a terrible loss. Man, that was pretty lame of the workman to unplug something...I am sure he could have found an open plug somewhere. I feel so terrible for your loss .

I wold be going after the contractor. They should have insurance to cover that. Most contractors have really, really good insurace coverage and limits. Trust me I am one. I kn ow for my company at last re-newals we just add a couple additional million dollars in coverage to covery the building, and buildings contents. HTH

I cant help but think that insurance and liability laws in Indonesia are not as consumer friendly as they are here in the US. That being said, I too am truly sorry for your loss.

I agree. That kind of mistake would justify compensation. Sorry for your loss. Really sucks.

I just found out that they unplug the cable to paint the protion of the wall near the electric outlet. Only that they forgot to plug one of the plugs back.

I doubt anything can be done. These workers are poorly educated and makes between $150 - 250 per month. Besides, acropora is really cheap here, only it can't make up for the 4 years I lost. Besides, no one will admit he did it and it is impossible to prove.

I can only start all over. I must said I did feel like giving up if I have not already ordered the 1000GL tank.

I'm sorry to hear about this It's tough to loose all the corals you've spent 4 years watching grow. The 1,000G tank will be sweet though!

The tank pictures were beautiful. I recently screwed up my tank (at least I did it myself) and had the same result of the tank turning to "milk" and all the SPS dieing overnight. I did not have really big SPS heads like yours, though, so it was not nearly as tragic. Right now I'm thinking I'll just keep the ultra-tough survivors and not keep SPS again. Your 500G SPS tank was special so I'm sure everybody hopes you will set the 1000G up for SPS. Very sorry but good luck with the new tank.
