As Steverino said you could use 1" pvc as athe pillars and eggcrate for the platform, of course you could also use acerlic(Sp) for both parts as well.

My understanding is that the snails with long tube type mouths are carinavors as in the photo's in the link. So if the mouth on your snails are like in the photo you may want to remove them.
