It's a good idea to test it with fresh water before you fill it up to check for leaks. I suggest hosing it out, then siphoning out as much as you can. If you have a shop vac, use that to get the rest...

If you're spraying, I suggest covering the top with plastic and taping it down along the top to avoid getting paint spatter inside.

I've just been using the generic stuff, got a 12 pack at Lowes. The secret I've found is to dry the end of the frag, then apply a thin coat. After a few seconds, put a small blob on top of that....

I suggest running a fan or two inside your canopy. Then you can close the lid. You can just get a cheapo clip-on model or drill some holes and mount some computer-type fans.
