I work at a LFS in Lower Manhattan and we have a Peacock thats about 4-5" for sale its $50 (I dont make the prices ) I want a mantis shrimp myself but I need a smaller type (anykind as long as its under 4") I live in Bklyn and Work in the City. You can call at 212-964-1821 10-6pm Sat.

If anyone comes to the city and they have one for sale out on the island (a small one for a good price) if you'd be so kind to pick it up for me I'll pay

Someone emailed me and told me that there's a place on the Island that has Mantis shrimp. So I called the number and a young lady told me they should have some coming in tomorrow. I asked for the price and she said its $9 per lb. She also said that they are alive because I thought they would be dead if sold by the pound. So if anyone on the Island ever comes to the city pretty often (because I work in the city and live in bklyn and never make it out to LI) I would love to purchase a few Mantis no matter the type....as long as they are small.

You don't know what you're missing! We have a few good LFSs, good food, not to mention beaches and trees (two things I find Manhattan and Brooklyn to be a little short on )

....A tree grows in Brooklyn ...and big buildings grow in Manhattan. As far as beaches....I prefer Florida beaches, thats where I'll be in a few weeks

I like Long Island tho...just hard to get too when you dont have a car...and the train isnt an option

But back to the shrimps. theres suppose to be a Fish Market that sells live fish and fish for food. Cranberry Hole Rd Amagansett NY ?

Amagansett is almost Montauk, quite a distance from NYC, and I believe that you're right, LIRR is not an option.
I do make it out that way on occasion, but I have no idea when it will happen again. I also do my best to avoid the city, so I'm not going to be of any use here. There are a few LIRA members that come from out that way, maybe one or two will chime in here.
