At what PPM do you change media on your RO/DI unit

Our water from our RO/DI is measuring about 12-13 ppm. When do you normally change out your media??

You are supposed to change out the resin? LOL Just kidding. I agree with plc001. I don't pay that much attention to what my reading is so I change it when it reads anything around 3-5. The last time I changed it I had a reading of 2 and I changed it just because. I really don't think letting it go to 8-10 will make that much of a difference though. It just depends on how clean you want the water for your coral. It is kind of like air for us. When I smoked, I never smoked in my house or around my kids because I didn't want to expose them to crappy air. The outside air is bad enough. That was in Atlanta though. The air is pretty good here.

I used plain RO water for years with zero problems and that was at least 10ppm. Why would you change it at 1ppm?

Because once a resin has reached saturation, a detectable TDS, it will begin to release some of the chemicals it has stored. Check this article for clarification. Using DI water with a detectable TDS is a gamble.

Keep in mind that one of the biggest importers of Phosphates in our tanks is through insufficiently purified tap water. Most people don't think about and let it run until the TDS reads 5-10 and then they wonder why they cannot get their phosphates down to a desirable level.
I actually think that a "1" reading is excessive and I have even used EC meters in the past in order to keep my RO operating as close to 0 as possible.
