Sand bed

I've read many different opinions on play sand. Does the sand they sell at the LFS make that much of a difference? It costs $1/lb for CaribSea sand at the LFS and $0.10/lb for "Target" play sand at Home Depot. So the question is, is play sand good for the aquarium?

One is silica and one is aragonite, so they are going to have different chemical properties. You're going to get some feedback about dire predictions with silica, but many people have good luck with it. I've only used aragonite myself.

Hello,
Have you looked on craigslist or checked into the local clubs?
Your info doesn't mention what part of the country you live in but most big cities have a fairly large local SW community.

I used mainly pulverized limestone (pavestone brand only, I don't recommend any other brand since i havn't used them) in my setups. Got a little bit of actrual aragonite from the LFS but for the cost, I took the chance on the limestone. It's calcium carbonate based just as aragonite sand, but can have iffy problems just like silica based play sand.
