Cutting an acrylic tank???
I peruse this forum often just to get ideas as I'm a DIYer and this forum has helped me a lot.
I don't post here much but I have a question. I'm considering getting an acrylic tank that is 96x30x24. However, it's just too tall for me. So, I'm wondering if it would be possible to cut it down to about 15-16 inches without compromising the integrity. Would this be possible? Also, if this is possible, what would be the best way to accomplish this? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!

It depends on the thicknes of the acrylic but a table saw should do the trick. Make sure the get a blade made for acrylic otherwise you will have acrylic scrap...

That tank sounds too awkward to work with on a table saw.
I cut the end off of an 80 gallon sump & glued a new piece in place. The joints I made turned out better than the originals. I just used a hand circular saw with a new 80 tooth carbide blade and used clamp-on straight edges. Just be sure that the tank has LOTs of time to dry out. Acrylic absorbs water over time. If you try to glue it before it dries completely you increase the risk of crazing. Stu

Also you could rough cut it with a circular saw/ jigsaw and then use a straight edge and a router to give it a nice perfect edge for the new euro bracing.
