Question Where are the peppermint shrimp?

I put in 7 peppermint shrimp in my tank to help with the aiptasia last week. I have yet to find them in the tank and the aiptasia population is not getting any better.

Any ideas?

Mine are DOA, not shy. They aren't very sturdy.

It took me a while to finally find my peppermint's hiding place.

but I can see him n the same place every day, hiding upside down under a rock swaying from side to side. looks like its dancing.

I have had the same issue. I have had two die at molting, the second I found a bristleworm pulling it into a hole. both times I located the empty shell. I added some to my 40g that is overtaken with aiptasia and have one in my 5.5 nano. The one in the nano is hard to find, but always seems to show up just when I think he must be gone. Putting blue plastic wrap over the end of the flashlight will help keep them from hiding from the bright light when you are looking for them at night. That is probably the best way to find them, but remeber you can't see all the little areas that they hide in. It may take a few tries. Good luck.

That's how they are - pep's hide - fire shrimp are generally shy, but will still come out, and skunk cleaners are right out front being social.

When my tang got ich, he wouldn't go near the skunk's because they were so aggresive - he would go to the fire shrimp.

I added 3 peppermint shrimp to my tank last week. Any noticeable aiptasia was gone the first night. The peps come out when I feed and there is food moving around in the current. I've seen them come way out onto the gravel to grab a piece of flake food.

Maybe its the region that the peps are from that determines how they act and how long they last. I know that only 1 of the 3 types eat aiptasia - Carribean. Florida and Indonesian (I think) won't touch it.

Just my 2 cents...

I got them from E-tropicals which is a carribean livestock site

I will try a flashlight with blue plastic wrap over it when the lights are out. Maybe the aiptasia is going away, just I don't know if because I have so much of it. My CBB did a great job and there were 4 peppermints in with him, but he jumped and the tank had an ammonia spike (over feeding I think) after that. I kind of want to try another CBB but another person told me their's jumped. Anyone else try one that didn't jump?

My peppermint comes out when I feed and stands on the side of a rock for me to shoot frozen brine shrimp to him through a pippet.

Took a week to find him when I first put him in though.

Very cool...I never knew that. Do you have a link to info for that. I would like to know in case I ever have an outbreak again.

I was very impressed on how my peps took care of my problem. I actually bought them assuming thta they would do nothing... I was wrong.
