snails pics included

Hi Dr. Ron,

Is this a vermetid?

Also I caught one of my snails in the act of "casting" her eggs, although you can't see the eggs. My camera doesn't have that resolution.

What is the liklihood of stomatella producing snails that live in home aquaria? Thanks for looking at my thread.

Many of my stomatellas' eggs survived, but I don't really know how likely this is generally.

I place about 10 stomatellas snails in my tank a few months ago and I have more then 10 now. I am in no way an expert at reef keeping. I would have to say they are easy to reproduce as long as there is food to eat. I also got my snails from a friend that had his snails reproduce.

Stomatellas reproduce like rabbits given good conditions.

Well she was pumping out eggs like no tomorrow. There was a male a couple inches away pumping out sperm. It was actually very interesting to watch.

Hi Jason,

Yes, the snail pictured is a vermetid.

Vermetids typically don't "cast" their eggs. They are brooders, the females hold the eggs iternally or deposit them on the rocks nearby and tend them.

As has been indicated, Stomatella reproduce well in a tank that lacks predators such as crabs, shrimp, and some fish.

Thanks Dr. Ron. I was talking about the stomatella when I mentioned the "casting" of eggs. I have never witnessed anything coming from the vermetid except the mucous web and those oblong shape things noted in the close up picture.

Once again thank you.
