Hey everybody, this is my first build thread. I am moving in december and i found it a great opportunity to upgrade from my 6' long 135 gallon tank to a new 150gallon 4'x2'x30" tank.

in the next couple of weeks i will post pictures and plans of what i am planning to do,

during the past 3 days i've been trying to figure out what kind of sump i will constract, and after alot of research i decided on the following.

the sump will measure 22"x22"x18" which is total volume of 37.7 gallons
the sump will be devided to couple of sections:




Refugium - 21 3/4, 9 3/4, 14 1/2 - 13.3 gallons
flow in/ skimmer area - 10 , 11, 13 - 6.2 gallons
buffles zone - 2 1/4 , 11, 13 - 1.4 gallons
return section - 8, 11, 13 - 5 gallons

total usuallbe gallons - 25.9 gallons
total capacity 37.7

today i got the mag 9.5 pump, and the Turboflotor 1000 Multi skimmer which both of them will be housed outside of the sump to increase the water volume.

it kinda looks like mine, but mine, like yours, is high. Once it is under mu stand I cant get anything in there with only a few inches of clearance, So if I were to do it again I would make mine shorter

i guess i'll make it 16" high than. i've got like 27 inches inside the cabinet

I have 28, but I tried to add a new skimmer and It wouldn't fit, now I cant put anything put some plumbing and a heater in the back compartment

when i'll get back from work today i will post some pictures of the tank and stand. like i said i got the skimmer the other day and i already put it together.

by the way how thick is the acrylic of your sump?

It looks like from your diagram that flow would actually exit the refugium and go to the skimmer area before getting to the return section.

If you are planning to use this fuge as a plankton reactor, I think having the fuge water go through the skimmer might keep some of the pods from reaching the display.

I have no experience with that sump design, I'm just passing on comments I've received from others when checking out a similiar potential sump/fuge design.

Why did you choose to have the fuge water flow to the skimmer instead of straight to the return? IMO its not a very common choice as most seem to have flow going from fuge to return. If its strictly going to be a veggie filter then I can see your reasoning.

water from the diplay tank will flow to the intake chamber and the refugium, only small partion of the water actually goes throu the skimmer, at least that's what i understood, so you don't loose that much

the reason i want to have it this way is to make the water go through the buffles to reduce any macro bubbles.

anyhow it could always be modified, i'll probably start building the sump somewhere next week

ea im doing the same thing in 24"x 28" and i want to let the skimmer flow go to the fuge then through buffles in to return.. that would make a longer route for the bubbles
