Acro for a 5.5g?
I now have a Yellow Clown Goby, and they apparently do best if they have acropora or some other kind of branching coral. He is in my little 5.5 gallon tank, and I was wondering if there are any that would be appropriate for a tank of this size? I've never kept any coral other then Zoanthids (who do well in this setup), so am fairly clueless about this. I don't have much current but am willing to get one or two powerheads.
Thanks for the help. |

not a chance in my book, sorry to burst your bubble. you really need a very stable environment and good lighting which would probably cost more than the tank and everything in it so far. i would look into some soft corals like a kenya tree or a leather coral but even then they will out grow that small of a tank. i would stick with zoanthids and mushrooms if i were you. hth.

OK, figured as such. Thanks for the help. The little guy will just have to do without. Besides, I just love my Zoas

Buy a high quality fake acro. there are a number of good ones on the market.

The clown goby certianly does not need an acro, and they usually actually cause some damage by rubbing on the coral and nesting at the base.

Hi Aussie_Hippie,
Apparently some people on this site have problems giving advice and should not post. Your clown gobie does not need an acropora to thrive but really enjoys hanging out on the branches of these types of corals. The goby inadvertently causes polyp recession by chillin on the branches. How long have you had the goby and is he happy? If he is happy is as, why change anything? Good luck with the goby and feel free to PM me with any questions you may have. Good Luck and Happy Holidays! James
