Overdose with part A & B?

I used Calxmax Part A & B from WM Research 2 days ago and my Lineatus and Scott's fairy wrasses died!! The directions said to use 5 ml per 25 gallons 3 times a week. The LFS guy said it'd be okay to use 15 ml once a week instead of breaking it up to 3 times.

I noticed what looked like burns on their tails and fins last night and did a water change (20 gallons was all I had last night) and woke up this morning to find both dead. I have a mystery wrasse in the tank as well and he's fine. All other fish in the tank are doing well. What happened?

Ouch.

Sorry Mike. I'm still not sure there what could have happened. It sucks when you lose fairy wrasses.

Edit: I remember reading somewhere that if you overdose on certain chemicals, it could affect/clog the gills of your fish and cause breathing issues.

Email WM direct. He's always around here on RC.
He will help.

Also check with Greg C. he works with WM on there product-line to.
He may also have info that might help.

Hey All Delight, are you following the directions and breaking up the dosing into 3 parts every week, and if not what are you doing?

Thanks Hoang, at least it wasn't my Rhomboid.

I don't think that was your problem. The directions say you can use up to 1ml per gallon everyday on highly stocked tanks.

I have been adding 25 ml twice a day to my 50 gallon tank to bring up the calcium and alk. It doesn't change either one very quickly.

My alk was low, so I was only dosing part 2. But I've been doing both once a week.

I just spoke to Jon at WM and he assures me that it wasn't A & B that did my wrasses in. Gotta check all my parameters carefully to see what could have changed.

Sorry to hear about your fish..

As far as dosing, it's better to dose more frequently so that you don't have large spikes in your water chemistry. Are you testing for alk and ca? The manufacturer's instructions are just dosing guidelines and your tank may have different needs.

you're right and I should test for alk and ca, but I run a very mixed tank (mostly softies/lps) so I tend to be laxed when it comes to testing.
