I just purchased a RS250 for my 180g tank and had a quick question on the recommended water level.
The manual is generic for all models and says that the optimal water level is 6"-8". This seems kind of weird because my RS80 is 22" tall and my RS250 is 30" tall, so I figured the bigger skimmer would proportionally have a higher water level. Does anyone w/ the RS250 have any real world recommendations for the water level? Should I use 6" on my RS80 and 8" on my RS250? or just shoot for 7" on both? |

I found on my RS-80 that it is easier to dial in if it is closer to the 8 inches

ER recommends for the RS250 to have the water level just covering the top of the pump elbow. Nice skimmer BTW.

When is the last time anyone here has gotten hold of ER customer service.
I have been emailing them for going on 3 weeks without a response.

I have always had better luck calling them.

Ive had that problem with them before when I needed a new pump, some people say the customer service is awesome but they are one of the worst in my opinions.

I'm going to buy the same skimmer for my planned 180g as well. I, too, am not getting any email responses from ER... Can you do me a favor? Can you measure the height from the bottom of the skimmer to the bottom of the 90-degree elbow? Also, are the pieces that make up that gate valve removable? Or are they glued in? Thanks |

Hmmm? I think my pump comes without the label.
Now, what can I do?

Tbone: From the bottom of the skimmer to the top of the 90 degree is about 11 1/4''. And you have 2'' in between the down pipe and the up pipe at the narrowest point (where the gate valve is). Also the pieces are slip fitted and glued.

What's the word on the 10" skimmers? I know Jeff said May/June as a target release date. Anyone have any further info?

If I were to mod the up-pipe by replacing it with a longer piece, and I added a short, horizontal piece before the 90-degree, would that affect the skimmer's performance? |

I have never tried this but I am pretty sure it would effect the performance in some way. I guess you could always try it and see. I wouldnt be too concerned with the horizontal piece but making the up pipe longer does. Just a side question: Why are you running the skimmer output directly into the fuge?

Side question: Why does it cost less to order skimmers via online vendors (e.g. SaltyCritter) than to order directly from your website? |

To keep it even more simple you can build an acrylic wall ad have a MJ900 or so pumping water through or over the wall for the fuge and have a hole/ grate right at water level for the water return exit for the fuge. This makes the water contact time in fuge greater and keeps the flow down. plus it only involves one hose and a small pump!
