cyinide test kit
I remember years ago when I first started freahwater seeing a cyinide test kit for saltwater. After buying a new fish you would let it swim in a q-tank for a while then you would test the water and if it was caught with cyinide it would show up on the test. Don't see those anymore. Did the fish importers stop them from selling them anymore or something?

Interesting.!
I don't think sucy a test is available. Presently no testing is done by any US importers/wholesalers to determine whether their suppliers are selling them cyanide fish. It's buyer beware! -REEForm: Never buy a fish from the Philippines or Indonesia where the use of cyanide is rampant.. |

There is no such test available. Unfortunately, the cyanide is usually flushed from the fishes tissues fairly quickly, meaning that the tests that are available must be done within a few days of collection. There are testing labs located in the Philippines, but they are not in frequent use because of the equipment maintenance and expense necessary to run the tests. There are studies being conducted now in the US to try to create a cyanide test that would test a by-product of cyanide exposure. This test could then be used after a longer period than the current test, making testing in the US feasible. The reason no US importer/wholesaler does any testing on their suppliers is because no such test is currently available in the US.
