Thumbs up My new 30G acrylic-come along for the ride (pics)

I picked up my new 30 gallon acrylic tank monday from socalcreations. It looks awesome!!! Thanks SoCal.

The tank dimensions are 26Lx15Wx19H with a black back and an external overflow. I wanted the external overflow so it won't take up precious space inside the tank. There are also 3 holes drilled on the back near the bottom for a closed loop. Here are some pics before plumbing. Enjoy!

The external overflow

The two drains for the overflow. The one on the right is 3/4" that will drain into the fuge and the left one is 1" that will drain into a separate sump

The holes for the closed loop

I will have more pics later when the plumbing is done

Nice tank Kenny, that external overflow is neat!
Is 1 inch and 3/4 inch overflow the bulkead size or the actual hole size? They look small? Have you considering using maybe 2 1 inch overflow or even a 1.25 inch+?

Thanks man. The bulkheads will be 1" and 3/4". I think combined they will have enough flow for this tank. The reason I chose a smaller one is that it's for the fuge and I don't want too much flow thru the fuge. The fuge will drain into a separate sump, which will also receive water from the 1" drain. Then everything is pumped back to the tank.

I was thinking order a tank from Socalcreations myself but still undecidesive about acrylic due to scratches. I mean I am very carefull about my stuff but how bad is this to clean the tank without minimal scratches.

Nice tank by the way.

My two current tanks are both acrylic and I haven't had many problems with scratches. You can scratch glass too, just harder, thats all. The trick is to make sure anything you use to clean or scrape the tank is acrylic friendly. Occasionally, you can use Novus 1 or 3, can't remember which, to clean and lightly polish the outside surface. This stuff actually makes the surface really slick and easier to wipe off. And scratches on acrylic are much easier to buff out, unlike glass. Just my personal experience. HTH.

Thanks Bui. I did make everything else besides the tank, including the stand, fuge, sump, and eventually a hood. Does that count?

That's a great price for that size tank. I wish I had the room or I would have bought a much bigger tank.

Well, here are some of the things that I already have or have recently built for my new setup.

First is the fuge. The dimensions are 19"Lx12"Wx14"H. When filled, the water level will be around 12" for a total volume of around 11 gallons. The water will come from the 3/4" drain in the overflow. There is a built-in overflow in the fuge also. The water will then drain into a separate sump sitting outside the stand due to a lack of space.

Here is how the fuge looks in the stand. For lighting, I have a retrofit kit with 2 65W PC bulbs that I hope will just fit inside the stand.

This is a close up of the power center to individually controll all the pumps, lights, skimmer, etc. The PC retrofits will be attached to the bottom of the power center.

The stand was something I made for my current 20G tank. As you can see, it's not quite finished yet I still need to do the doors. The new 30G tank will fit nicely.

Ok, here is the sump. It's 20"Lx14"Wx12"H. When filled, the water level will be around 8" for a total volume of just over 9 gallons. Overall, the system will have approximately 50 gallons total. Not too bad. Should be a lot more stable than my current 20G.

Here is a pic with the ASM G1x in it. I still have to drill the holes for the bulkheads for an external pump and to receive the water from the fuge.
