Florida Keys collection trip/w permit

Can anybody suggest a good collection area in the Florida Keys off the Overseas Highway #1. I am aware collecting from reserves and state parks is illegal.

I would suggest to post in the Florida Marine Aquarium Society reef club forum, several people there go to the Keys and collect.

You can't collect rock/coral anywhere in Florida.. Its illegal. Those that do are risking heavey fines. BTW, how would you keep fish alive unitl you get back home ?

With a fishing license you can collect 20 individual peices per day. If collecting corals such as ricordia you must collect no more than 1/4" of substrate. Each polyp must be individual.

I've already successfuly brought back critters I bought this summer on a 2 day I-95 trip back to Jersey City, NJ by running an air pump off 12volt car plug and doing water changes with natural collected sea water.

I would still appreciate an answer on a good location.

I'am interested in zoos, sea stars, hermits, sea hares, anemones, etc.

there is a little place off of US 1 in Islamorada on the right hand side. You'll see a white gravel/sand area on the side of the road that was made for parking and you get in the water there and its full of rocks and corals and fish. There are all kinds of critters there. Its right after the outback steak house in southern islamorada. Basically anywhere off the shore in the keys is pretty good as long as there are rocks around. I used to live in Florida for 14 years so I know a bunch of areas. There are some pretty good spots in West Palm beach too. Look up peanut island. That place is awesome.
