need a vets 2 cents

alright, i recently switched to a traveling vet who is a friend of the family and used by my parents. he's a nice guy and his prices are cheaper than the other vet i used, but i want to hear what you think of what he told me. he only sold me 9 months of heartworm preventative, saying it was unneccessary from Dec-March, too cold for the worms. is this true? i'd rather be overly cautious and give it to my dogs year round, even though it costs more. it's frickin freezing out there right now, and my dad pulled a tick off mom's min schnauzer 2 days ago. if they're still kickin', why not the heartworm? both my dogs have had their heart meds for this month, but we don't have any for next month. is there anywhere online where i can find it cheaper? i've been using the iverhart plus line. Thanks!
