Black Coral Store ?

Has anyone heard of a shop in the southern california area called Black Coral? One of my LFS said that they were at the Reef-A-Palooza, and that the shop offers livestocks at pretty much whole sale prices to the public several days times a week...

If you guys know of this place please let me know. I'm coming to the So Cal area and would like to get some nice corals/fish for good prices for my fishy tanky...

Thanks!

Are you thinking of Black Coral Hawaii in Santa Ana?

It's a membership store and only open Thurs-Sun if I remember correctly. Prices seemed pretty good but they import directly from overseas so the selection can be spotty at times. I think their membership fee is like $20 per year.

$20.00 one time fee. In Santa Ana off of Fairview the first street south of Warner. Sorry I do not remember the street name. The are straight back on the right hand side at the end of the street.

It is membership only ($20). They import and re-sell to retailers. They get most of their shipments in durning the week and by the weekend selection is limited. Mostly fish and inverts, not much SPS. The guys that run it are really nice and helpful.

Black Coral is hit and miss for livestock. However the livestock is extremely healthy. That is why I make the 80 mile round trip drive. Not a place where you will see a lot of dead fish in the cubes. Nearly 90% of the livestock in my tank was purchased at Black Coral. Some may be frustrated by the inconsistant stocking levels but that is the importing business. If you are patient, you will surely find some jewels of the hobby. I remember when I got my Chevron Tang there for $60. Trick is, the more items you buy, the More Clint is willing to negotiate the price. If you buy one single item, do not expect a huge discount. I know other reefers can verify that when Bali Acros wer the rage (most stores selling them for $70 - $120, they were selling them for $40. I would regularly get them for $30 because I would buy 4. I know many LFS's were upset because they felt that he was ruining the market but Clint works on a simple price mark up and does not price a coral higher simply because it is the hot coral on the market.

I've membership from this place. they hand out their logo t-shirts with $20.00 fee. I dont know now but, they gave me a t-shirt 2years ago. You need to call them before you want to visit them. they dont always have stuffs and closed 2 or 3 days out of the week. I've gone there without calling them and they didn't have much to even look at. It's best if you can visit them when they have shipment. but, all gone in few hours.....
