order of equipment

I have been talking with a few people and need to know what you guys think for order. What is the best way to keep the pods moving through the system. I have heard that a protein skimmer will gobble them up.

Here is what I had planned, this would alway the refugium to clean what it had and pass the better water onto the skimmer.

Option 1:
Main tank --> refugium --> skimmer --> return pump --> main tank

Here is what someone told me to do, I don't see how the pods would get past the skimmer here though.

Option 2:
Main tank --> skimmer --> refugium -->return pump --> main tank

This would be more complex but let me know if this would solve the issue. This way the skimmer would only hit %50 of the water on each pass but it would provide a path for the pods without the skimmer so some of them make it back.

Option 3:
Main tank overflow1 --> skimmer --> refugium -->return pump --> main tank
Main tank overflow2 --> refugium -->return pump --> main tank

And if you think I have lost my way and its not a big issue tell me what option is best and I can go with that. I have too much stuff in my head right now.

Well wouldn't it be
Main tank ---> Skimmer ---> Fuge ---> return pump ---> main tank

Actually the idea is to let the pods grow in the fuge and then get them into the main tank. The main tank provides food but not livestock so the skimmer first in the line is fine.

Thanks guys, now I have to figure out how to plumb from one side of my 55 over to the 125 and then back to the other side of the 55 for the return. Thanks again for all the help.

Also Tom, I have been reading your threads in the "New-First Time on RC-Look Here for Answers" section. Great work.

And that makes sense. You want to avoid sucking the main tank's population into the plumbing. As I said, the fuge is the nursery and pods do their WaterKeeper's description here has been deleted as it violates our RC User Agreement. thing in there.
