Monti Changing Color
I while back I put a nice piece of "Supergirl" Montipora in my tank...it had sweet green polyps and a bright blue base. The thing was thriving and quickly became one of my best growers, expanding from it's base and all over the rock under it.
Things were going very nicely for ~6 months, but that's when I replaced my old MH bulbs with new. The bulbs had been running for over a year and it was time to replace them. I swapped out a pair of 14K's and one 20K, all from the same maker as the bulbs I took out. Within a week or two though, the polyps on the monti had turned redish brown and the blue faded considerably from the base. The polys are still expanding and the piece is still growing but the color hasn't bounced back to the original "Supergirl" combo of green and blue. It has been more than 6 weeks now, so I'm wondering if there's any point to giving it more time or if I need to take more drastic action. I'm reluctant to move it of course, as it has really attached itself to the base rock, but I'm not sure what my other options are. All my other corals (montis, acros, etc.) are all happy with the new bulbs, this is the only trouble maker. The water parameters have remained stable throughout as well. The only real change was replacing the bulbs. I'm probably not the first to have this happen, so let me know what your expereince has taught you. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Chris |
