Unhappy Red hairy/slime algae.. How can i stop it??

I began using an RO/DI unit in July, my TDS reads 0, The system has been up since May.

Alls fine until recently, i notced a fair amount of what i beleive is red slime algae? its small and hairy like and accumilates on the sand mostly but is also on the bottom glass. Looks ugly and dirties the water when wiped.

How can i stop this? or at least cut it waaay back,

All suggestion appreciated

It is just a cycling process. I went through it a couple of times. Dont vacum up your sand bed either to rid of it. My recomendation would be first add a phosban reactor w/ phospate media. Reduce feeding to every other day and less amount. Then use red slime romoval. You can order online at dr fostors and smith or just go to your LFS. Follow the directions exactly on the red slime romoval then do a 20 to 30 % water change. Also, make sure you have enough flow in your tank. This should do it! Just be patient as well!

I had a major outbreak of red slime algae. It was covering my sandbed, glass, and most of my rock. I turned my lights off for 3 days, did 2 15g water changes (one in the middle of lights out and one right after I turned the lights back on), added 2 phosban reactors in series one running carbon the other phosban. My tank is crystal clear, all the algaes gone and its been 5 days since I turned the lights back on. I did lose one head of my hammer coral in the process, but everything else is fine.
