Nice price on MH bulbs

I know we probably shouldn't advertise, but I have no affiliation with this ebayer and didn't know if anyone else had run across them. Tuesday evening, I ordered the 2 175 watt Ventura 10k for 49.99, I got them today. I personally think they are excellent, no yellow, in fact a slight blue tint. They also have good prices on 4 foot VHOs. Anyway, just wanted to share the info.

I got the plus brand with my on line lights. They really do suck. More yellow than white.

Here's the tank with 50/50 VHO's only:

The tank actually looks pinker than that in person.

Here's the tank with the MH's only:

Of course it looks bluer than the pic shows.

One difference between the Venturas and the Plus is that Venturas peak in the 450nm range predominantly, whereas the the Plus bulbs peak in the 450nm, and two spikes in 550-580nm range. That is most like the cause of the yellow seen in the Plus bulbs.

I'm borrowing a Venture 10k bulb right now until my new one comes in. A 5 month old Venture 10K bulb is way better than a 1.5 year old Coralvue 10K. The venture seems to burn at about 12,000K. But maybe I'm used to the old Coralvue that looks like it is burning at 5700K-6500K right now.

I finally changed my bulbs and put in the venture 10K. I cannot get used to that blue. I am running with vho actinics and previously had a hamilton 10k. My yellows look blah and dont pop like they did.

Any chance they will be less blue when they burn in? If not I have to get new bulbs, maybe the reeflux 10k as they are supposed to be very white.

Mine got a little less blue after the burn in and I'm running VHO actinics as well. I like the color of mine and don't think it's overtly blue. Could be the difference in individual bulbs or individual's perspectives. The corals could be getting used to a different spectrum. At any rate, for what it's worth, I'm extemely pleased with mine.

I ordered 2 cheap 10k bulbs from the auction site. I cant wait to see if they're any good. Here is their site.

http://www.reefmax.com

They don't seem too bad from the site's pics. The guy running the site needs a lashing for crappy web design though

I click on that reefmax.com and I get some kinda real estate site.

I hope they brighten up some as the tank seems darker. I thought I would shut off the actinics to see if that helped but it seems even more blue with them off..odd huh?

ok so the update on the "reefmax bulbs:

I got them yesturday. They are actually "Agromax" brand.I just fired them up, and they are stunningly pretty especially for the price! The color is slightly white/blue'er then my old wore out ushios I used to use while being way better then the PLUS brand cheapo lights. I really liek them

The only spectral analysis i found was a test on a 250 watt 20k. found here:

http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2005/4/aafeature/view

Here is its chart.

They seem seem to come in 175 250 400 and 1000 wattages. The 175 is offered in a10k and 20k
250 watt is offered in 10k 14k and 20k

I believe the auction name is for this guy is kmtbm, I would try a search on the actual agromax name first though bc i bet you that they' re like 10-20$ Or try your local agro store

I highly recomend these bulbs so far

Interesting. Have you noticed any side effects of the new bulbs? Your poor corals are probably so used to those old 20Ks they might get burned on the new ones.

I burnt in those Venture bulbs and they look much better. I think I also had to get used to more blue as I had hamilton 10ks.
