The reason I'm asking is because I have 2 ice cap ballast 250w, and I dont know if I should get the lumenarc se or de.

I think when all is said and done. Its just preference. I like SE.
I love the Radium 20K bulb and it is not available in 250W DE. Alot of people like DE because it has the glass shield. So your reflector wont get corroded or your bulb wont get splashed with water and break I like SE for the bulb selection, which DE has quite a few now and the gap is definetly smaller. Also think SE has better overall par than a DE, even though this is close also |

I like the SE bulbs simply because I can retrofit them without using a shield to stop UV. As said above, it really comes down to preference although some additional PAR seems to come from the DE, but not enough, it seems, to switch.

I've never used SE but if you go with DE, get the Phoenix 14K bulb.

I had to make the decision recently. I went with DE myself primarily because I don't have the cash for good reflectors and the "comes with the package" DE reflector looked better than the standard SE spider reflector. Who knows if this is the case. Also the Phoenix 14k is a really nice bulb from what I can tell blue look, good par and only in DE.
