Please help decide on test kits.

I need new alkalinity, calcium and magnesium test kits. I am almost out and I was wondering what is the best brand to buy, and where to get the best price? My LFS sucks so I will be ordering online.

There are lots of test kit brands. I've used Salifert for a long time, but they recently had a bad batch or two of alkalinity test kits. Elos kits get decent reviews, as do API. The Instant Ocean tests should be okay, in my experience.

I love my Elos test kits, there supposed to be more accurate and be a small step down from lab grade.

I still use Saliferts for the big three. I have been fortunate enough not to have received a bad kit. (Well one bad mag kit a year ago but everything has been good since. )

Not to say it hasn't happened to other folks.

Marine Depot has always carried Saliferts and Drs Foster & Smith just took on the line. Hmmmmm

Me thinks they are still pretty good.

The alk kit seems to be of biggest concern, which you can buy an inexpensive API kit (which I love) and compare.

BTW - Just ordered Elos kits for the big 3 plus PO4. I will be testing them next week.

You all know that I am a testing fool.

I'd like to know the results you get with the elos kits, Billybeau. Do you plan to compare this to a few other kits at the same time?

Yes, I plan on testing them against Salifert, API , LaMotte and Seachem.

Should be interesting.
