small tanks are where its at tucho, You can have all of the fun of the big guys, without all of the expense. Just don't go to small, or you will fill up to fast.

My God from Zion! I see someone has received the sps annointing! Those are some nice corals. Could you share your tank mantainance schedule? Also, do you only have that one fish? I see in your sig you have a skimmer, I am guessing it is a hob kind.
What else is there to know about what you are doing. btw...with the fan, what is your evap rate?

Carl

edit: just saw the hippo - are you gonna keep him?

find a friend or a reef club member that will take him. YOu will only get about 3 bucks for him at a pet store, so It is not worth giving him to them not knowing who's tank he will end up in.

joining in

I figured I'd chime in and join the group, I too have a 37oceanic. Pet smart clearence at $75, lucky stumble I guess. I love the size, just right for a college budget.
I opted a different route though on the stand, I had a bunch of 2x4's around and a lonely corner in my room so I made my own to fit a 20 gal sump. I still need the front trim but it looks ok with out it . It was supposed to have an external pump and skimmer, off either end, Well First mistake I got a used mag 12 to drive the returns and even tried splitting it to a diy skimmer, either way it was to powerful and it leaked, then I dropped and broke that first 20 gal tank. So everything is now in the new 20 gal sump/refugium. With the mag12's flow split and returning to the sump.
I have about 5 lbs of dead coral and 40 lbs live sand. I'll be getting more lr this week. And I got 4 blue leg hermit crabs from a friend that gave me the macro algae. -pecc

I had a 37 but I couldn't handle it.....the dimensions are ridiculously hard to work with. So I switched my 29 fresh with my 37 salt, since their only differences are height- and I now have myself an 29g official nano reef that is beautiful and lots more fun to maintain.

I'm glad to see you've handled your 37 exceptionally well. Congratulations cuz your better than I am lol!

Zahner, it was about a year ago, it had no glass top...no biggie. it was just sitting on the floor smiling at me saying take me home. Building this stand cost me about $40. Cuz I had alot of the stuff sitting around the house as scrap/leftovers anyways. what kind of skimmer is everyone running on their systems? My diy still isn't producing so I'm gonna bite the bullet and buy one.-pecc

Mine was purely by luck. I was there for some feeders for the Gar,back before I got him on pellets, and it just happened to be sitting right there. The guy that was working said it was cuz there was no glass top... But that's only a $40 ish dollar piece, so hey who am I to argue with him.
Petsmart always has decent deals on returned/damaged goods, just check around as moga said, I get alot of good cheap equipment there. -Pec
