How does Halimeda propogate?

I like Halimeda and that is good because they are popping out of my sand bed all over the place. How do they propogate anyway?

I like it, but it does suck up the calcium. Here is more information that might help. It covers sexual reproduction as well.

Thanks TippieToe/ Amy. It all makes sense now. I had one plant go pale and then dead on me. Soon after my new crop of cactus started growing.

I'd like to reopen the issue because I have a Halimeda "bush" that I'd like to share with others here in Spain.

Should I just prune the bush and give away cuttings?

I remember reading some time ago that attached Halimeda fares better that cuttings. Should I try to get them to attach to rubble? How? Can I just stick them into the sand for a couple of weeks?

Cheers,
Enrique

BTW - the link provided above by TippyToex has changed. Here's the new one http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/20...nftt/index.php

Yes; this will work nicely! The Halimeda will quickly grow "roots" into the sand and then you can pull out the rooted halimeda and put it onto a rock where it will attach. You might be able to put it and a rock into the sand and wait for the runners to grab onto the rock. Pull out both and it might be well attached already.
