maiden's hair or hair algae...?

i have a small patch of green algae but i'm not sure if it's maiden's hair or just regular hair algae... it's been there for a couple of months now and it doesn't seem like it's spreading all that fast... the algae is very green... it seems soft because it sways around with the current...

You are going to have to show a pic if you want an answer.

That hair algae pic is horrible. Looks like something out of a cheap horror film!

here is a picture... also on the left side of the picture, i have some hair algae looking stuff that grows in clumps... they're very soft and quite easy to take off by hands... but they are ugly... what are they...?

hair algae. Maiden's hair doesn't look so messy and is pretty hard to remove by hand in comparison.

i was talking about two different things in the picture... the green algae was what i was asking initially...

the other one that is uglier and easy to remove by hand is on the left side of the picture that is off focus...

FWIW that algae in the link provided by dippin61 does not, IMO, look like hair algae:

This, on the other hand and unfortunately, kinda does:

Maiden's hair looks much different IMO.

i just did a google image search and those were the first ones to come up.

the HA pic is actually on the about.com website in their saltwater section..

if you read the article, its a pic of HA dieing off. the bubbles are from gasses that are released as its dieing.

Quote:
Steven Boss sent us this photo of some of the Green Hair Algae which was growing rampantly in his tank. The trapped bubbles you see are caused by gasses being released from the algae as it decomposes. This is usually a sign the algae is starting to die off.
still prolly not the best photo
