Shallow aquarium experience?
Hi! I'm thinking of replacing my current aquarium when I move this fall with a 50"x30"x11" aquarium. This will have a 3" DSB so the swimming height will only be like 7". What kind of problem will this cause for fish and inverts? Or any other problem you can think of?

A startled fish may be more likely to end up on the carpet, than in a deeper tank.
The evaporation/tank volume will be larger, so top-off is a little more critical. Well, that's what I could think of sorenb |

I would think that heat may be a bit of a problem as well, Depending on what type of lighting you are going to use.

Thanks for the replies! I figured I'll use one 250W MH or 2x150W and maybee the 2x54W T5 I already have. So heat might be an issue then...but won't the water be easier to cool with all the surface area?

at 1 of my somewhat lfs' they have a star fish tank with liverock and some crabs which is in a tank very simular to yours. itrs very cool and to see everything you look at the top of the aquarium where their is no acrylic. In the middle of the tank above everything is a refugium that spills the water into the tank, hard to explain but cool
