What's the diagram of salt?

Kind of an off-the-wall question, but I've been trying to find the rendering of NaCl. I don't know the technical name, but that thing with the hexagons, etc. You know what I'm talking about? (My pharmacist brother would be ashamed of me right now...)

Anyway, if anyone can give me a link or pic of it, I would REALLY appreciate it!

looks like a lop-sided dumbell if you were to draw it.

I'm not really sure the specifics of what you are looking for in a diagram, but you can check www.chemfinder.com and search Sodium Chloride, they have a couple drawings you can view (ChemDraw and Chem3D - can download plugins to view fo free)

Are you looking for the crystal structure of Sodium Cloride??
If so, it is cubic, with Na on every second place.

I bet you would find something if you googled terms like crystal and sodium cloride.

If you are looking for the electron density distribution, it gets a bit more murky (methinks).

Put a Na and a Cl next to each other. There are only two molecules in the structure. (Plus on Na, Minus on Cl if you wish)

NaCl exists as a crystal in solid form. The crystal is a cubic lattice made out of very large arrays of Na and Cl (which are fundamental elements).

There is no NaCl molecule as such - ie. like the one in the picture you posted.

When NaCl is dissolved in water, the atoms leave and form isolated ions Na+ and Cl- .

There exists form of NaCl like the diagram you have illustrated.

right, but I'm trying to find a picture of it. So in a search, what terms would I put. What is the specific name of that type of diagram?! Chemistry was my worst subject in school...

You are fast BraenDead! and I'm too slow.
Must be because you are a chemist, and not just a physicist like me.

Then what's the lopsided dumbell?

Scroll down to see the picture with the crystal structure for Sodium Chloride...

There a few dozen different ways you can draw it, the lopsided dumbell being one of them. As far as the picture you are looking for, there are no lines to draw and connect. Just like in your picture you have NH2 on the bottom, the picture of NaCL would be:

NaCl

Hope this helps

Sorry, I forgot to negate the sentence somehow.
Should have read: There exists _no_ form...

Oh well...

I don't know if there are any questions remaining, but if there are, I'm happy to answer them.

I thought I post the 3D NaCl structure directly from one of the links above so folks don't have to follow the link:
